We’ll start today’s post with the good news that I don’t need to wear the moon boot any more. Of course, I now have months of physio, but step one is going back to normal shoes on both feet. This pleases me no end, though I have to say it did feel very strange to begin with. I did manage to get to the library to return a book and pick up one I had on order with quite a bit of effort and the comfort use of the crutch. This is going to take time.

It was good being home as I could take in a parcel of cheese from Over the Moon which will go towards Sunday lunch, and put together a pot of pea soup (with leek, carrots and mushrooms to use up things in the fridge before the next Wonky Box arrives).

To celebrate my freedom, I also made the suitably autumnal sounding Spiced Pear & Semolina Cake from Tilly Pamment’s wonderful book The Plain Cake Appreciation Society. I honestly don’t think I have ever baked with semolina before (visions of semolina pudding anyone? Probably showing my age and where I grew up in that statement…..), but the cake turned out really well The cake also used chai tea, which I don’t have, so substituted tLeafT’s Monk’s Blend which I love, cardamom and vanilla.

Verdict? Excellent – we both really enjoyed the warming flavours. Make again? Yes. Apologies for the picture below which had to be taken in artificial light as we ate the cake for dessert.

It was also a day to book tickets for events, catch up on a bit of life admin and settle down to a good new detective novel before watching an adaptation of a Camilla Lackberg novel on Netflix.
