The rain began yesterday, heavy rain lasting most of the night and early morning. And then at Pilates this morning, we could see some sunshine breaking through the dark grey clouds. It has, however, been a very grey day, and perfect for the wonderful rain jacket I got from my husband for my birthday last year.
Where to go for lunch on a Wednesday is always a hard decision. There is no shortage of cafes and places to eat in the city, so it can be a difficult task! Today I decided with the weather being so miserable, I would just head over to Pickle and Pie, situated on Lombard Lane, and which regular readers may recognise. As you might expect from their name, they serve pies, make their own excellent pickles and serve up things like reuben sandwiches, matzo ball soup, bagels and a range of cakes and pastries.
I found a seat by a sunny window and ordered their toasted reuben with smoked pastrami, Swiss cheese sauce, Russian dressing and sauerkraut on rye.
It was then time to head home and do a few things around the house before preparing a pasta bake from dish magazinethat will do tonight and tomorrow. It is made with chorizo (well, I used a Hungarian salami I like), capsicum, red onion, garlic and tomatoes which were roasted in the oven before stirring in the pasta and topping with cheese. As any notion of natural light has now gone, you will have to imagine what it looks – and indeed tastes – like.
I am hoping that the weather will at least be dry tomorrow evening, as we are going to an outdoor event at the Botanic Gardens – keep your fingers crossed!
